HIV Big Deal is an ongoing, multi-faceted, internet-based effort to motivate gay men to have safer sex and to get tested for HIV. A collaboration between Public Health Solutions of New York City and New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, the project was conceived and developed in response to the continuing HIV epidemic among gay men.

The core component of the HIV Big Deal project is a series of 10-minute video dramas that realistically address the social and health-related dilemmas gay men face. So far, two episodes have been released, and more are in production. We encourage you to watch the videos and to tell others about them.

Although the introduction of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) in 1996 dramatically reduced both the incidence of AIDS and the number of deaths due to AIDS, the incidence of HIV infection has not declined. In fact, it has grown, especially among gay men. An estimated 40,000 new HIV infections have occurred annually in the United States since the early 1990s, and nearly half the newly diagnosed infections are in gay men. This steady rate of infection combined with declining mortality due to AIDS has resulted in a growing number of people living with HIV, many of them gay men. Safer sex practices and regular HIV testing are crucial to reversing this trend. Please help us reach as many gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men as possible.
